The web is a casino

Google Analytics, Facebook, and advertisers are tracking *everything* you do.

Jackpot makes casino sounds every time someone tracks you online.

The Web is like a casino. It’s a dark room, and you have no idea what time it is. Hours pass like minutes, and shady figures follow your every move along the garish carpeting.

Install this extension to hear what the web really sounds like.

The sounds represent the third-party trackers and advertisers like Google Analytics, Facebook, and Twitter, chiming in as they follow you around and monetize your behavior.

Turn off your ad blocker for the full effect. Jackpot!

Yes! I was thinking of making something like this, but never got around to it. It's nice to be reminded of what's happening behind the curtain.

It's fun to finally have some insight into what a web page is doing while it loads content and pings servers around the world... but I think there's more to this extension than that. Through sound it makes visible the hidden world of web advertising, behavior tracking, cross-site spying. The choice of a modern Casino as a sound-bed makes the point beautifully: the web is almost entirely commercial now, and with every click, you're pulling a lever, making a gamble with your privacy... and not on the receiving end of the payout. The house always wins, after all!
